MODO INVISIBLE (Invisible Mode) is a short film combining mystery, suspense and thriller elements, with touches of science fiction and horror. A slow-burn film that explores modernity and examines the relationship between art and social media, as well as what lies ‘beyond’. Its carefully crafted aesthetic seeks to visually capture an almost painterly, baroque composition, with a vintage feel that evokes classic cinema from the 1970s and 1980s. The idea behind it is to tell a story that engages with technology and modernity from a somewhat more analogue perspective, with pacing, spaces and silences more characteristic of that era of cinema; with a suspense that builds gradually, much like a jigsaw puzzle that we only manage to piece together at the very end. Added to this quest is a mythological backdrop, and a story told in simultaneous layers in the style of painters such as Diego Velázquez and his work of art Las Hilanderas.

Ariadna’s story—of her obsession with an influencer whom she does not know, but whom she perceives as the ultimate rival to be defeated; of her feeling that life is slipping away without her having achieved great things—is a story that seeks to explore the potential universality of this conflict, in this case through dehumanization as she descends ever deeper into her baser instincts and her failure to comprehend what’s going on in this horizon where art meets technology.

The soundscape is distorted by technology: whilst the imagery presents these visual compositions, the soundtrack highlights sounds without fully revealing whether they are diegetic or not, yet they form a counterpoint to the visuals and thus accompany the story’s technological clash.
